Madeline Tennant Zins age 96, of Spring Green entered eternal life on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Greenway Manor Nursing Home in Spring Green, WI. She was born on June 8, 1921 in Lone Rock, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Ellefson) Moore. Madeline was married to Ralph Tennant on May 31, 1941. After Ralph’s death, Madeline was married on December 26, 1975 to Edwin Zins. Madeline began her 45-year teaching career in one-room country schools and retired in 1987 after 25 years as an elementary teacher in the River Valley School District. She was fortunate to teach many generations of residents in the community. Madeline was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green where she was a member of Ruth Circle, and taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Madeline was a kind and helpful friend, generous with her time and talents. Madeline enjoyed square dancing, travel and time with her family. Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Johnston of Milwaukee, Sue (Ken) Leonard of Verona, and Jeanne (John) Schaaf of North Oaks, MN, grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Leonard, Amy (Joe) Weyer, Nicole (Shawn) Marsenich, Brent (Nina) Johnston, and Jack Schaaf, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ralph Tennant and second husband Edwin Zins, a son-in-law Mike Johnston, her sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret (Bill) Schoenmann, and Mary (Marv) Kerl. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green at 3:00 P.M., Rev. Mae Jean Zelle will officiate, with fellowship to follow. A private burial will be in the Big Hollow Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church. The family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the staff at both Greenway Manor and Terrace.
