Subscription Update Obituary

On the morning of March 13th, 2017, Byron passed away peacefully at The Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Fennimore, WI. Byron was 92 years old. Byron Ewing was born at home in Gillingham, Richland County, WI on April 24, 1924.  He was the second of two children and only son of Vangie (Allen) and Ernest Perry Ewing.  Byron grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Richland Center High School in 1942. In December of that same year he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theater during WWII.  Discharged in November 1945, Byron married Thelma Dell Kidd on April 18, 1946.  Byron owned and operated Rexair Sales and Service in Dubuque, IA for 21 years. He was also sales manager for Steenberg Homes in Sheboygan, before subsequently returning to Richland Center and opening The Boaz Country Store.  Byron operated the store with his significant other of 34 years, Arbutus Schumacher. Byron loved sales and talking to people. Many people would come into the store just to buy a cup of coffee as an excuse to chat with Byron.  Byron was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Vangie, wife Thelma, son John, daughters Jo Ann Ewing and Janelle Ewing, sister Bernadine Leitzen, and lastly Byron’s little Rat Terrier buddy, Penney.  Byron is survived by sons Larry (Barbara) Ewing of Janesville, WI, Timothy (Robyn) Ewing of West Bend, WI, daughter Kimberly (John) Obrien of Nashville, TN, grandsons Larry Joe Ewing Jr. of Beloit, WI, John (Lori) Ewing of West Bend, WI, Aaron (Nikki) Ewing of Allenton, WI, Paul and Shaun Ewing of Janesville, WI, Nathan Ewing of Lomira, WI, granddaughter Melody Ewing of West Bend, WI, as well as six great grand Children.  A very special thanks to all of the staff members of The VA Hospital in Madison, WI and Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore, WI, that took such good care of Dad. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center.  Rev. Craig Peach will officiate with flag presentation by the Local Veterans Military Memorial Honors Unit. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Stafford Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M until the time of service.  Online condolences available at www.staffordfuneralhomes.com.  The Stafford Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
